Coleman Advocates Workers Request Voluntary Recognition For Union
Dear Coleman Advocates Board of Directors, Co-Executive Directors, and Leadership Team,
We are pleased to announce, that we, employees of Coleman Advocates for Children & Youth have a strong showing of interest in forming our union, Movement Builders United, with the International Association of Machinists (IAM), a multi-sector international workers’ union organizing in for-profit, non-profit, and government organizations.
This presents an important opportunity to strengthen our organization by further advancing our commitments to justice and equity. We see our union not as being driven or influenced by any outside force or organization but as growing organically from our stated values of advancing leadership and building collective power for marginalized people. We form our union from a place of great care for each other, our organization, our community members, and the work that we do.
We hope that our organizational leadership will also be able to see the clear benefits of this union to our collective work and grant us voluntary recognition by Monday (4/22) at 12:00 pm. We would be happy to submit proof of our strong majority status to a mutually agreed upon and neutral third party for verification. We are also fully prepared to file for an election with the National Labor Relations Board if necessary; however, we would prefer instead to give our organization the opportunity to recommit to our shared values by working enthusiastically alongside Movement Builders United to improve our workplace for all. Please let us know if you will grant voluntary recognition to our union and walk with us toward equity, transparency, and accountability.
Sincerely,
Movement Builders United
International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers

📢 Last Friday, 4/19, Coleman Advocates workers announced we have a strong majority of eligible workers who support unionizing with IAM and formally requested Coleman Advocates to voluntarily recognize our union, Movement Builders United SF.
TODAY, 4/22 Coleman Advocates responded and REFUSED to voluntarily recognize our union. They have instead forced us to go to an official election with the National Labor Relations Board and will spend significant organizational resources on this process.
We are disappointed with their decision and are asking allies to sign our community letter of support! Please see the link đź”—đź”— in our bio to sign and follow us, the workers of Coleman Advocates, to stay up to date with our fight towards equity, transparency, and accountability!
